Employment Opportunity: Part-time Office Secretary

Location: St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 191 Wade Gate, Thornhill, ON, L4J 5Y4

Hours: Part-time, 16 to 18 hours per week (Tuesday to Friday, 4 hours in the morning) with flexible hours for special events.

 

Position Overview

St. Joseph, the Worker Parish, is looking for a dedicated and friendly part-time Office Secretary to join our parish team. This role is ideal for a caring, organized individual committed to service and an appreciation for Catholic values. We seek someone who can create a welcoming atmosphere in the parish office and assist in various clerical duties to support our community and clergy.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Hospitality: Greet and welcome parishioners and visitors with warmth and respect, answering inquiries with a friendly and knowledgeable approach. Work alongside volunteers to support parish activities and events.
  • Office Management: Provide general clerical support, manage daily office activities, and maintain a welcoming and organized space. Coordinate with the Pastor, Office Manager, parish staff, and volunteers. Organize and schedule parish appointments and masses. Prepare the bulletin and announcements. Plan other events. Register new parishioners and manage the parish database.
  • Software and Technology: Be open to training and learning new parish software for scheduling, record-keeping, and communication.

 

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: College or university education preferred; at least one year of related experience in an administrative role, ideally in a parish or other community setting.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Mac computer software and willingness to learn new technology.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, courteous and professional demeanour.
  • Faith-Based Understanding: Knowledge and respect for the Catholic Church’s beliefs, values, and culture.
  • Background Check: The successful candidate will require A criminal background check.
