anointing of the sick

Do you need assistance from a Catholic Priest?

The Catholic Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick offers prayers for possible recovery, with the more important intention of strengthening the sick person's soul. Often, when people are sick, they get discouraged, depressed, angry, annoyed, and afraid. The Church believes that the sacrament offers a special grace, strength, and encouragement to bear any illness with dignity.

Catholics can receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick as many times as needed. The elderly, people with many ailments, and those with a deadly or serious disease, chronic pain and suffering, or recurring illness can and should be anointed often.

Catholic Chaplaincy at Regional Hospitals

If you need assistance from a Catholic Priest, you can request their help at hospitals in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Catholic priests are available directly at some hospitals within the Archdiocese. You don't need to call your parish priest for assistance. Instead, you can request help through the hospital's Spiritual Care Departments or Staff Chaplains. To access this assistance, identify yourself as Catholic and ask the nurse to call a Catholic Priest Hospital Chaplain. Full-time priests are available in certain hospitals such as St. Michael's, Mount Sinai, SickKids, Sunnybrook, and the University Health Network (Toronto General, Toronto Western, and Princess Margaret). A part-time Priest is also available at the Church Street site of the Humber River Regional Hospital.
