The Catholic Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick offers prayers for possible recovery, with the more important intention of strengthening the sick person's soul. Often, when people are ill, they get discouraged, depressed, angry, annoyed, and afraid. The Church believes that this sacrament offers a special grace, strength, and encouragement to bear any illness with dignity and grace.
Catholics can receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick as many times as needed. The elderly, people with many ailments, and those with a deadly or serious disease, chronic pain and suffering, or recurring illness can and should be anointed often.
Catholic Chaplaincy at Regional Hospitals
If you need assistance from a Catholic Priest, you can request their help at hospitals in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Catholic priests are available directly at some hospitals within the Archdiocese. You don't need to call your parish priest for assistance. Instead, you can request help through the hospital's Spiritual Care Departments or Staff Chaplains. To access this assistance, identify yourself as Catholic and ask the nurse to call a Catholic Priest Hospital Chaplain. Full-time priests are available in most hospitals.
